Adoption Process

Welcome to Fable's Midland Hamster Rescue! This page is dedicated to guiding you through the adoption process, ensuring you have all the information you need to welcome a furry friend into your home.

From our requirements to completing the necessary steps, we’re here to make the journey as smooth as possible. Thank you for considering adopting a hamster and giving them a loving forever home!

Enquiry

Contact us via our website enquiry form or social media to express interest in adopting a hamster from us.

We will need to know where you are located and what enclosure you have, if you have an enclosure at all.

2

Information Gathering

We will send you our detailed adoption form to get all the information we will need from you in order to ensure that we find the right hamster for you and that everything is in order to proceed to the next step!

Once we have received your form, we will discuss potential matches with you, and you can let us know which one you would like to adopt.

If you require full delivery or meet partway, this is charged at 28p per mile for a round trip. We will discuss with you at this stage if this is something we can offer, the details and how much it would cost.

3

Reservation

In order to reserve your chosen hamster, we will require a photo of your enclosure, wheel, multi-chamber hide and a free-standing platform.

Once we've approved these photos, you will have a maximum of 1 week (7 days) in order to complete your setup to our adoption standards.

4

Getting your enclosure ready

This is the super fun part - getting your enclosure for your new hamster! To make things easier, we have a super handy checklist that breaks down everything we'd need to see in the final enclosure, along with inspiration setups and our hamster handbook that has links to safe and recommended products.

Once your setup is ready, pop over a photo for approval, and once everything's gotten the green light, we can arrange an adoption date!

You will be sent the details to pay the non-refundable £20.00 adoption donation fee for the hamster. This must be paid 48 hours before the adoption date/time, along with any other outstanding costs (such as transport), before the agreed-upon adoption date and time.

Bringing your hamster home

Adoption day is here! When collecting your hamster, all you will need to bring is an empty carrier - don't worry, we will provide bedding from the hamster's foster enclosure to go in the carrier, along with a bag of bedding to take home to help transfer the hamster's scent to their new enclosure.

Remember it is vital to let the hamster decompress and truly settle in their new home, as such, we advise leaving them alone in the new enclosure for 7 days, aside from ensuring fresh water, food and necessary care.
